Meet Dr. Steckelberg
Dr. Melanie Steckelberg has been setting the highest standards of excellence in dentistry for over a decade! She is a Nebraska native who received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University, then earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. Shortly after graduation, she opened her own dental practice in Lincoln, Nebraska. Dr. Derryl Ogden then gave her the opportunity to take over his practice when he retired.
While in the first years of her private practice, Dr. Steckelberg was a faculty member at the College of Dentistry in Lincoln for nearly five years. She enjoyed working with dental students as a part-time clinical instructor in the undergraduate periodontics clinic. This position was given up once Dr. Steckelberg became a mother. However, she does hope to someday return to teaching at the college part-time. Continuing education is important to Dr. Steckelberg, and she works hard to stay on top of emerging dental research.
Dr. Steckelberg enjoys giving back to her community. She works as a dentist at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, has provided dental screenings for Lincoln Public Schools since 2008, and represents Nebraska Dentists as a Treasurer of the Nebraska Dental Association (NDA). Her previous leadership position was as an NDA Trustee, representing Lincoln’s ADA Dentists from 2012-2017.

In 2014, she received the Outstanding Young Professional Award from the Nebraska Dental Association.
In October 2018, Dr. Steckelberg was honored to become a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. This photo was taken before to the Convocation Ceremony in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 18, 2018.
When not working at Steckelberg Dental, Dr. Steckelberg enjoys running, yoga, photography, sewing and knitting, and spending time with her husband, daughter, family and friends. She recently has been coaching her daughter’s YMCA volleyball team, along with the help of her husband and the other amazing parents!

Our staff, led by Dr. Melanie Steckelberg, is highly skilled, uniquely trained and strives to provide energetic and fun-loving service to each patient. Our staff members have specialized training, multiple certifications and years of experience treating patients with the highest level of care. We stay abreast of the latest techniques and technologies by regularly attending continuing education courses and seminars.

Jalyn – Dental Hygienist
Jalyn is our outstanding Dental Hygienist. Jalyn joined the team in July 2021 and she quickly became indispensable. Jalyn grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and trained at Central Community College in Hastings.
As a dental hygienist, Jalyn assesses oral health conditions, reviews your medical history, takes dental x-rays, and can help provide appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health. Jalyn provides dental cleanings, which includes the removal of calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of teeth. She monitors periodontal health and provides periodontal maintenance services. A dental hygienist is a valuable team member and we are privileged work with Jalyn. Jalyn works Monday through Wednesday at Steckelberg Dental.
Jackie – Dental Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
Jackie is our enthusiastic full-time dental receptionist/administrative assistant. Jackie manages the schedule, deals with insurance claims and accounts receivable. Jackie works hard to solve insurance questions and make sure you are satisfied with our answers to any dental questions you might have. She will gladly assist you with patient appointment confirmation and brings her great attitude to the office every day. Jackie is happy to greet you at Steckelberg Dental’s front desk and is a welcome addition to our team. Jackie joined our practice in January 2023 and has quickly become a valued team member. She works Monday through Thursday at Steckelberg Dental.
Heather – Dental Assistant
Heather is our compassionate, determined and empathetic full-time dental assistant! She assists Dr. Steckelberg during dental procedures, sterilizes instruments and disinfects treatment rooms. Heather takes dental radiographs, impressions, obtains and updates medical history. She fabricates temporary crowns and coronal polishes. Heather sets up the operatories prior to your arrival for your appointment and make sure that everything runs smoothly. She maintains the day-to-day clinical operations of Steckelberg Dental. Heather joined our staff in October 2023 and we enjoy working with her. Heather has a passion for dentistry and her personality brightens up the office. Heather graduated from an accredited dental assisting program in Kansas. Heather works Monday through Thursday at Steckelberg Dental.
